Sir John Charnley was Britain's leading pioneer in the field of total hip replacement.

His clinical results are the benchmark by which all subsequent
developments are measured.

After his death in 1982 it would have been easy to regard his life and contributions to orthopaedic surgery as a matter of history.  Fortunately his family and colleagues were convinced that they had a duty to ensure that a major piece of research that he had commenced should be completed and that his memory be perpetuated by academic fellowships and research grants.

Since it was founded the Trust has now distributed over £1.5 million in bursaries, grants and assistance. Additionally the Trust is proud of the help and financing it has been able to provide to the Patients' and Surgeons' Journeys at Wrightington - a valuable resource for both patients and clinicians.

The Trust continues to seek funds to pursue its aims. If you would like to help the Trust you can do so through these pages. Please give generously.
