Patient's Journey

The Patient's Journey is a pioneering NHS patient information centre at Wrightington Hospital - world renowned for the development of orthopaedic surgery.

The centre engages the patient with accessible information supplemented by interactives, video, animations, and commissioned art.

The roles played by various hospital staff in the joint replacement process are clearly explained and the risks and rewards of surgery are highlighted:

  • infection, its prevention and cure
  • component failure and revision surgery
  • the importance of consent
  • the life expectancy of the implant

An online version of the Patient's Journey will be available in 2011.
