The Wrightington Hospital Patient Information Centre

Wednesday 20 September 2006

The Trustees are delighted that the Patient's Journey at Wrightington which was completed in Early Summer 2006 will be officially opened in October 2006, when the Patient Information Centre is finally handed over to Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust.

The Patient's Journey is sited in the hospital's reception area which has been completely redesigned and rebuilt to house this groundbreaking exhibit. It will soon be complemented by the Surgeon's Journey - the second phase of the Patient Information Centre - which will become a valuable resource for clinicians and students to study the pioneering developments in orthopaedics that have made Wrightington famous.

The Patient Information Centre helps the hospital to engage with prospective patients and their families. The full scope of treatment is explained in a lively, entertaining and informative way. Patients are introduced to the people who will care for them and their roles are explained.

The entire journey from consultation to rehabilitation is described in stages, so that patients and their relatives are fully informed about their treatment. The PIC is also open to the public as an affirmation of the importance of Wrightington's role in the development of orthopaedics.
